U14 Girls Cavan Feile

Congratulations to the the Under 14 girls who are County Féile Div 1 Champions for 2016. The girls were paired against fellow Div 1 teams Crosserlough and Castlerahan/Denn in Virginia on Easter Monday. While they were hopeful, everyone knew it would be tough.

The girls played two games in the league stages of the competition against Crosserlough and Castlerahan/Denn. The first game against Crosserlough was a real battle. The girls came through by 2 points – this was a lucky win. They were blessed that the game was only 20 minutes long as the Kilnaleck girls were getting stronger as the time passed. Crosserlough were very tough and put it up to our girls. This was without doubt the toughest game this group have ever encountered. They proved that they have what it takes to be the best. The second game against Castlerahan/Denn was less challenging and a comfortable 10 point victory was gained with all of the squad getting a run.

The final paired the girls against Crosserlough again. It was evident in the girls’ body language and determined focus prior to the final that they had nothing else on their minds but victory. They went out and turned on the style to beat their opponents to every 50/50 ball and were clinical in front of goal. They scored 2-10 in 20 minutes – exceptional. The girls ran out winners by 2-10 to 0-2 against a team that nearly beat them in the group stages. There were heroes in every red and black jersey on view – everybody gave their all and more. The girls should be extremely proud of their efforts. They dug deep when required to show why the only word applicable to them is WINNERS. Next stop All-Ireland Féile on June 24-26 in Limerick/Kerry.

The squad is: Joanne Reilly, Ava Sheils, Aoibheann Morrison, Emma Comiskey, Katie Brady, Maeve Young, Annabel Fitzpatrick, Grainne Cahill, Clodagh Kennedy, Maria Lovett, Aisling Cahill, Alex Brady, Kaoini Tuipilatou, Cara Thompson, Aisling Walls, Ally Cahill, Grace Smith, Amy Galligan, Faith Galligan, Shauna Gilsenan, Deirbhla Lynch, Aoife Lovett, Mollie O’Meara, Claudia Burke and Emer Cahill.
