SENIORS

Cuchulainns (2-09) V Killygarry (0-11), Sun. 19th Feb.

Killygarry opened their 1st Division league campaign on Sunday afternoon in ideal conditions in Mullagh. Killygarry got off to the better start with Donal Thomas getting the first score of the game. The teams went on to trade points to leave the score 2 points apiece after 5mins. The next score came from a Eugene Keating short range free but points from Martin Reilly and Shane Kelly brought Killygarry back into the lead.

After Keating and Reilly went on to exchange pointed frees Killygarry went in at half time winning 6 points to 5.

Killygarry again began strongly in the second half with another point from Reilly. However, Cuchulainns again managed to bring back their deficit to 1 point with another score from Eugene Keating.

5 minutes later Killygarry were left disappointed as Paul Taite’s effort for a point managed to find it’s way into an outstretched Paddy Galligan’s net. This piece of misfortune was followed up by a Cuchulainns point from Rory O’Connell. Cuchulainns were 3 points up and the more energised side with 10 mins remaining in the match.

Stephen McGovern pulled Killygarry back to within 2 points with a great free from a tight angle only for Cuchulainns to respond with another goal.

Killygarry battled on to score the next 3 points. However, Cuchulainns managed to re-establish control over the game and got the final 2 scores to leave the score line 2-09 to 0-11 in favour of Cuchulainns.

This was a close game throughout and Killygarry were, to some extent, unfortunate to leave empty-handed. Killygarry continue their league campaign this Sunday 26th when they take on Cavan Gaels in Stradone at 3:30 in Stradone.

Killygarry team: Paddy Galligan, Daryl McKenna, Eoin Smith, Conor McInerny, Ross Sheridan, Brendan Murray, Paddy Lynch, Padraig Cahill, Donal Thomas (0-01), Damien Keaney, Martin Reilly (0-06, 3f), Andy McGoven, Cathal Keaney (0-01), John Lyng (0-01), Shane Kelly (0-02).
